Aerogel is a synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component has been replaced with a gas. It is often called "frozen smoke" or "blue smoke" because of its translucent appearance.
It has an extremely low density and excellent thermal insulation properties. Aerogels can be made from silica, carbon, or metal oxides.
Aerogels are used in NASA space missions, building insulation, oil spill cleanups, and advanced scientific research due to their heat resistance and absorbent nature.
